Third Sector

Many third sector organisations have traditionally focused their efforts on delivering voluntary or community services with the commercial function not being managed well. The Government is committed to making better use of third sector organisations in delivering public services and to ensure this happens they are working to reduce the barriers to the third sector contracting with public bodies. However, there is a mandatory requirement that all public money used in the delivery of public services must provide value for money and therefore all organisations supplying these services must themselves be cost effective. This means that third sector organisations; if they are to provide sustainable services over a period of time must ensure their commercial processes are efficient and effective. This is generally difficult as it will require commercial skills that most third sector organisations do not have.
